“Desperate Lies” (“Pedaço de Mim”), a 17-episode prime time soap produced by Banijay-owned A Fábricawas Netflix’s most watched TV show in July globally, making it the first ever Portuguese-language show to reach the top of the chart since we started tracking them in January 2023. (So far, only shows in English, Korean, Spanish and French had reached # 1 globally in any given month).
Supacell (New Wave/Block/Netflix) was the most-watched English language title and 2nd overall in a slow summer month for the top 20, as they collectively delivered 1.1bn Viewing Hours —roughly 22% less than a year ago. Of course, this doesn’t mean Netflix’s overall viewership dropped by that much: it’s likely a lot of it shifted to titles under the Top 20, or to movies like “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. However, July has been a lot more competitive, with “House of Dragons” on Max, “The Bear” on hulu and “The Boys” on Prime all delivering strong numbers in the US according to....
